Hon’ble Minister for Energy & Water, Govt. of Afghanistan Sh. H.E. Mohd. Aarif Nurzai along with a high level delegation visited Tehri Dam & Hydro Power Project of THDC India Limited (THDCIL) on 19.10.2014. Sh. D.V. Singh, Director(Technical), & other Senior Officials of THDCIL welcomed the Hon’ble Minister Sh. Nurzai and the delegation at Tehri.
The high level delegation of Govt. of Afghanistan consisted Hon’ble Minister for Energy & Water, Sh. H.E. Mohd. Aarif Nurzai, Director(Energy Programme) Sh. Mohd. Humayun Kohestani & Sh. Farhad Nurzai and Economic Advisor Sh. Ahmadi. Sh. V.K. Gupta, Executive Director(Hydro), NTPC Limited the Coordinator for this delegation from India, was also present.
Sh. Nurzai explained that there are immense water resources in Afghanistan and also discussed the problems faced in utilizing the water resources for Power Generation and Irrigation. Sh. D.V.Singh, Director(Technical), THDCIL briefed the delegation in detail about Construction of Tehri Dam & Hydro Power Project, Power Generation from the Project and also ongoing construction of Stage-II Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP). Sh. R.K. Vishnoi General Manager(Design) delivered presentation on Tehri Project and Power Generation aspects.
The delegation visited Tehri Dam & Reservoir from view point, Spillways, Underground Tehri Power House and other components of the Project. On this occasion Sh. R.S. Mehrotra, GM(Tehri Project), Sh, S.R. Mishra, GM(Koteshwar Project), Sh. O.S. Maurya, GM(Q.C. & Safety), Sh Muhar Mani, Gm(Tehri Stage-I), Sh. Vijay Goel, Addl. GM(P&A) and Sh. U.C. Thakur, Addl. GM(Planning) were present.
THDCIL is one of the premier hydro power generators in the country with installed capacity of 1400 MW with commissioning of Tehri & Koteshwar Dam to its credit and is bestowed with 'Mini Ratna-Category-I & Schedule 'A' Status. THDCIL also has plans to increase its installed capacity to 2424 MW by the end of XIIth Plan.
